Sommarøy Hotel sits in a landscape where driving conditions can change quickly, especially in winter. For many of our visitors, the roads north are unlike anything they are used to. Ice can form without warning, winds can reduce visibility in seconds, and daylight is limited to just a few hours during the darkest part of the season.
Winter transforms these routes into demanding terrain for both driver and vehicle. Conditions can shift from manageable to challenging over short distances, and accidents can happen when speed, inexperience, or underestimation meet Arctic weather.
Drive with caution, allow extra time, and adapt to the conditions rather than the schedule. Winter driving here is not about reaching your destination quickly – it’s about arriving safely.
Please note that shuttle reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance. Bookings made later may be possible on request, but cannot be guaranteed. The price is NOK 800 per person, per trip, with pick-up/drop-off just outside Scandic Ishavshotel in downtown Tromsø.
We offer shuttle transportation between downtown Tromsø, Tromsø Airport, and Sommarøy Arctic Hotel, which can be booked during the same process as your hotel reservation. If you have already booked a room, you can modify your reservation to add a transfer.
