Sommaroy Arctic Hotel

On the west side of Tromsø, a mere 45 minutes from the city centre lies the fascinating pearl of nature, Sommarøy, where you meet chalk-white beaches, cosy coves, holms and reefs that encircle the hotel and everything we have to offer our guests. In close combat with the forces of nature, we facilitate authentic coastal experiences at sea and on land. Activities, wellness, coastal culture and a lively local community – and all the service and facilities you expect of a modern hotel in the kingdom of Ottar. Nobody visits Sommarøy without being touched by the fantastic nature. The proximity to the great ocean does something to you, be it in the dead calm or fierce storms, whether your are outside or crawling into a comfy chair in the sea cabin, right out at sea. Calm, the feeling of being right where you want to be right now. For over 10,000 years the ocean has been the lifeblood of those who live here. The Viking chief Ottar left from here to England in 890 AD, and told King Alfred of the "Nordveg", the way to the north, and his kingdom, Hålogaland. The border to Finnmark and the kingdom of the Sami people ran over Kvaløya (Sallarey) and out into the sea at Haaja, the original Arctic cathedral, throne of the ocean.
